  1. 1. Jan Burres was a forty year old rubber tramp. Her and her boyfriend took Chris in to "school him on some things".when Chris left a week after staying with them but he stayed in touch with them by sending post cards every month or two.

    2. i think Chris had a major impact on Rons life because Ron was a man who lost his wife and son in a car accident and meeting Chris they got along very well. getting to know Chris they grew a father son bond. Ron wanted Chris to choose a different lifestyle.

  2. She was a flea market vendor that Chris happened to come across. She a person who was able to change McCandless mind. Even though we know that Alex does not like to be controlled by others, she was one of the few who could do it after a long argument.
I think that Chris had a major impact on Ron because he brought him the feeling of having a family again. Also, it is unconventional that Ron would ask another man to be his son. He would have only asked that if Chris was a major influence.

  3. 1.Jan Burres was a forty year old woman.she was a vendor at a flea-market in Niland. she had a very big affect on Chris becauese she is the only person so far that he has gave any information about his background to. she is also the only one that he writes or ever revisited after he left.

2.Chris had a major impact on Ron because he was able to make him give up his faith in the lord and start drinking again when he found out that Chris had died. he thought of Chris as his own son.Considering his wife and only son died in a car accident due to a drunken driver.Ron and Chris were very close. he had even tried to concince Chris to stay with him instead of giong to San Diego.when he couldnt he convinced him to let him drive him all the way there.

  4. 1. Jan Burres was a woman that happened to pick Chris up one day as he was hitchhiking. They grew very close over the short amount of time they spent together. She almost came off as a motherly figure along Chris' journey. Chris liked her as a person but immediately left after beginning to get to close to Jan. The effect was good but Chris just didn't know how to handle it.

    2. Chris had a major impact on Ron's life. Ron saw Chris as a person that could replace his son and that he would be able to fill this void that Ron had felt for so long. Ron grew attached again, very quickly, to Chris and was eventually devasted by Chris' abrupt yearning to leave once things got too good and once he began to get too close to someone.

  5. Jan burres was a 40 yr old tramp. She and her boyfriend took in Chris to "punk him on something" that was going on at that point. Chris left after living there a week with them. He stayed in touch with them by sending them post cards every now and then

    2) Chris Had a major influence on Ron life because Ron felt as a father figure to him so it was comforting to Ron. Chris kind of gave him the feeling that he can depend on Ron and that's what Ron liked cuz it made him feel like my son needs me. Expesually after the lose of his own family, Ron feels for once in a long time that he's needed by some one who feels, cares about him. So to me it seems like he had a grate impact on Ron.

  6. 1.) Jan Burres was a woman that was pretty close with Chris (Alex) during his journey. Jan and Bob were pretty good friends of Chris that had met them before because they are always moving around. Jan is very important to Chris life because she apparently was one of the few that could actually understand him. Alex (Chris) had told Jan about his though of the Alaskan Odyssey and had a good communication with her and Bob as he travel around he send different postcards from the places he visited. [Chapter 5]

2.) Ronald A. Franz was one of the most important father figure throughout Chris’ odyssey across the country. This man, Ron had an important impact in the life of Chris because his emotions were control by him as a consequence of having that father environment around in which in this situation Chris was his son figure. For example, Chris just ask for him to drive him a place he would just do it and also he even offer to adopt Chris as his son. This man is not crazy but wants to help Chris out but Chris goes away because he doesn’t want to attach himself to Ron because he knows I will be problematic in the future.

  7. Jan Burres is a middle-aged ruber tramp who travels around the West selling items at flea markets. The two meet when Jan and her boyfriend pick Chris up on the side of the road. During the time Chris spent with them Jan acted as a mother figure, altering him of the dangers of his journey and giving him reasons why he should not go, these actions impact his journey greatly.
Chris had a major impact on Ron because of the amount of time he spent with him. After the death of his son and wife, Ron was left empty and attempts to find the meaning of life. Chris helps Ron find meaning in life by allowing him to give his advice and by convincing him to live a life on the road.

  8. 1.) Jan Burres is a forty year old tramp that picked up Alex on the side of the road. Jan and Alex came off to a good start and became close to each other. Jan acted as a mother figure to Alex because she warned him of the danger out there. She had a positive affect on Alex because he would write to her and was one of the few people that he would share his journey with.

2.) Alex had a major impact on Ron because he was a lonely old man seeking for comfort. After the tragic death of his son and wife Ron did not know what to do with his life. Once they met, Alex offered Ron advice on going on a journey himself to experience new things. Ron became very attached to Alex to the point where he asked if he could adopt him. Alex did not like the relationship that was building between them so he decided to leave and Ron became extremely devastated.

  9. Jan Burres and her boyfriend (Bob)were flea market salesmen. They have came across Chris at a highway, meanwhile he was picking berries. Jan and Bob took in Chris as one of their own, and try to persuade Chris not to carry on with his journey into the Alaskan wilderness.

Chris made a great impact in Ron's life by reminding him of his son, who had died in a car accident along with his wife. Ron grew fond of Chris, due to his arrogant acts and foolishness, which were the traits any teenage boy would possess, including his dead son.Ron showed his affection by asking Chris if he could adopt him as his son.

  10. 1) Jan Burres was a 40 year old ruber tramp that sells items at flea markets. She and her husband Bob are close with Chris McCandless and remain in touch with him. Jan picks Chris up while he was hitchhiking. Chris felt that Jan really understood him and he told her about his voyage. He would send post cards from the places he had visited and always told the couple how he was doing.

    2) I believe that Chris had a major impact on Ron Franz because at the time Ron had no other children to look after. Both his wife and son had died long before. Ron feels a fatherly affection towards Chris. He admired Chris's way at looking at nature and when he heard about his death he says that he stopped believing in God. Ron says that he always prayed for Chris and believed that if there was a God, why would he let Chris die.

  11. 1. Jan Burres was yet another person that Chris encountered on his journey into the wild. She was a forty year old women who seen no danger in picking up a hitchhiker like Chris on the road one day. Her and her boyfriend Bob were owners of a stand located in various flea markets. Unlike other women Chris had met, Chris and Jan developed a strong bond that could have been easily mistaken as a long term friendship simply because it was the only women that Chris felt actually understood him.

    2. The reason why I believe that Chris had a major impact on Ron’s life is because, Ron seen Chris as the son he once lost and felt that he would not disagree on him wanting to adopt him. Over some time they developed a sword of father-son bond. That had Ron believe that Chris would eventually settle down and end his journey into the wild.

  12. 1)Chris met Jan Burres in a fleamarket while she was helping sell books. After Chris was aquainted with Jan she let him stay at the Niland Slabs he stayed to help around the house which made her feel like she met a new friend. Also about Jan Burres had a seventeen year old daughter named Stacy that was asking Jan to convince chris to walk with her due to having a crush on him, which also tells that Chris isn't in much interested in relationships and could never be serious with her due to his adventure unable to have much activies except traveling.

2)Chris was part of Ron's life because he was every step of the way with Chris, such as Ron helping him make a Tool belt for useful needs. Also asking Chris if he would like to be adopted as one of his own step son's to fill the gap from Ron's past with his family and start over. But also Chris wasn't interested and turned down Ron's resquest about him and continue'd on chris' life while sending back and fourth postcards to stay in contact.
