Gay Marriage
Same-sex marriage is defined as a union between two people who are of the same gender or biological sex. However, many people still disagree on the definition. Either way, this topic carries with it a large amount of controversy. Those who support same-sex marriage often argue that love is grounds enough for marriage, regardless of sexual orientation. Those who are opposed often cite religious viewpoints and concerns about the rearing of children as the main reasons for their opposition. The conflict over same-sex marriage is not a simple one. It involves many legislative, cultural, religious and family issues. What are your thoughts? As usual, post your initial response and then reply to two of your peers.

Gay marriage should be allowed because they have the right to love and marry who they want. For example, the first amendment says that laws are not to be made from a religious bases. Some may disagree and say marriage is between a man and a women. I understand their point of view, but people should be free to marry any person of their choosing . Additionally, we live in a country were freedom is applied to everybody so its their right to marry who ever they want to.
ReplyDeleteI agree with your post, anyone should be able to marry who they want. I also do believe that homosexuals should be able to adopt children because they are going to give them the love a child needs.
DeleteI agree with you that it should be legal because people should be happy with their happy life style and how they want to live there life. We were talking about this in American government that there was a couple that were wanting to over turn that people made gay marriage illegal
DeleteTo what I have observed, is that when one says the word "gay" another person quickly pictures a guy in a dress or a woman with not much hygiene. I'am not suggesting anything, but only stating that gays exaggerate their sexuality through their appearances. It is okay to have pride in ones-self, but isn't it too much already with disagreeing with social norms? This may be a reason as to why gay marriage has not been passed, I belief.
DeleteI agree with you that same-sex should be legal. I also agree with the information you got from the first amendment re-guarding religion. If we make one decision based on religion, then we basically violate the first amendment.
DeleteI agree with you because we are all equal as human beings and it really doesn't matter what their preference is, as long as those people are happy with each other, I don't mind. It is their choosing and their lifestyle that they chose to live.

I agree with you. People should let use religion as a reason to keep same sex marriage illegal. everyone is entitled to marry someone they love.
DeleteI do believe in equality and happiness but how can we (society) explain to children the reasons for gay people or gay parents. Basing this on children development, some kids are going to grow up and be confused and wonder the he or she has two mommies ors two daddies when other kids have one mom and one dad.
DeleteMost people are against gay marriage, mainly because of religion/personal beliefs. It is the few who agree that it is OK to marry the same gender. President Obama said " No one in America should ever be afraid to walk down the street holding the hand of the person they love" he was referring to all people but mainly to the people who are against gay marriage. In addition in a video that i watched a gay soldier was afraid to state his true identity because he did not want to lose his job. I don't know much about the rule sin the military but the 14th amendment does state the all citizens have equal protection from the law. If he was to lose his job because of that, they would be violating his rights as a citizen.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you, in overall. I would like to add that people are against gay marriage, due to religion stating that whoever that violates any of God's rules, he/she will be condemned and end up in hell. I for one do not want to go to hell, therefore, if I was to be strict in my connection with God I would have to say "No!" to gay marriage. I would not even think of giving them a chance for happiness, if that was case.
DeleteI agree with you because people should not be looked down upon because they are in a same sex marriage or partnership. It is inhumane to treat these people as worthless or as inferior to the rest of us. They deserve respect and each treatment as do we all. It is unjust to loose a job from expressing our preference to the world and something should be done about it.

I agree with what you are saying. Everyone's entitled to their own opinions relating same sex marriage. I would also like to add that it goes back to religion, people see it as a sin.
DeleteWhen you mentioned that situation about the soldier and his issue, it makes me sad knowing that "gay" people are being discriminated by their sexuality. That really isn't fair. I don't get how people are interested in the same sex, but I do get their happiness when they're around the person they love.
DeleteI completely agree with your position on this topic. I like how you brought up the soldier's situation because it shows how people live with the fear of exposing themselves because they might lose a job. I also like how you included Obama's quote.
DeleteHonestly I think it should be legal because it's our natural rights to be with whoever we want so if te same sex wants to be together then they should. No one can judge any one because no body is perfect. If they are making it illegal then they are interfering with our natrual rights. Prop 8 is still under review to see if gay marriage should be allowed and so far I think it might pass because Many people's opinions change over time.
ReplyDeleteI'm confused about your position on this topic. Furthermore, I did not understand how President Obama's quote was talking about those citizens against same-sex marriage. I do however, agree with the information you presented from the fourteenth amendment.
DeleteIn my opinion gay marriage should be legal because everyone needs to be loved or at least have a partner that will be there for support through hard times. My parents have taught me, now that I'm a young adult, that there is nothing more in life than to feel wanted and share joy with someone else. Therefore I see no problem as to why gays are not allowed to share their happiness with their partners. On the contrary, there will always be religion interfering with the gay community, due to God's reason for creating different genders. I thought that religion was established to promote world peace by bringing together different point of views. Except does the opposite and judges people based on their sexuality. Every one is equal in aspects that go against social norms, but who are we to judge?
ReplyDeleteI also think that people should be allowed to be with the one they love. However, I don't think religion tears everyone apart. I think it is based on an individual whether he or she wants to use religion as a barrier.
DeleteDenying same-sex marriage is morally and constitutionally wrong. It directly violates, "Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness" which is meant to exemplify the "unalienable rights" with which all human beings are endowed by their Creator and for the protection of which they institute governments. Additionally, religion should not be the determining factor that approves or denies same-sex marriage. The first amendment clearly states that laws are not to be made from religious bases; therefore, a man and a man or a woman and a woman should have the right to be married. The following quote is a sample of a full traditional wedding: “We are gathered here today in the face of this company, to join together (Names of the group) in matrimony; which is an honorable and solemn estate and therefore is not to be entered into unadvisedly or lightly, but reverently and soberly. Into this estate these two persons present come now to be joined. If anyone can show just cause why they may not be lawfully joined together, let them speak now or forever hold their peace.” There is absolutely no evidence that the text in this sample has to do with religion. Morally, if two men or two women are willing to love, honor, comfort and cherish each other, forsaking all others, keeping only to each other as long as they both shall live, then they have the right to be married. Moreover, same-sex marriages do not, in anyway, infringe the rights of existing citizens in society.
ReplyDeleteGreat post. You are right that the constitution separates state and church. Are there other laws that in some cases fail to separate? I am also interested to see if you can connect court cases to your argument to strenghten your claims sense you quote and cite the U.S. constitution.
DeleteI like how you brought up our constitutional rights but yet people do not remember that and oppose gay marriage. There is nothing that says gay marriage is wrong, and like you said if two people love each other they should have the right to be together.
DeleteGreat use of the constitution and the sources available to you. But the fact is that if you’re talking about morals, gay marriage is not one of them. Although the government is suppose to be based in separation of church and state, it fails because in the pledge of alliance the word “god” is said, which angers many atheists back in the day and today. Yes, atheists existed back in the days when the constitution was made and ratified. So then, church and state are not fully separate. In addition, if rights are in the middle, people opposing have the same rights as the ones in favor. In the states that gay marriage is legal, many homosexuals are not even getting marry nor adopting kids, shocking right??

My thoughts into Gay Marriage can have its good and bad moments, Such as strict low minded people that they would not believe in such thing as gay Marriage. Others do support it for their loved ones to achieve happiness and be proud for it. I have few friends that feel the same way towards other male mates but also hide their personality of being gay due to other peoples opinions can result in a argument towards gay men. Several unknown people don't want those kind of people to be existed in this world just because Two males are together, but also that there are Female couples and most people wouldn't be against it for other unknown reasons why. Most likely being gay can either be good in some way to be happy and have a different personality but also a downside that the're are other people out there to prevent things such as marriages or creating a family but also other loved ones will support their gay relative

I am a bit unclear about what you are saying. Please re-read your post and bring clarity.
DeleteI believe that gay marriage should be legal because I think its unfair that people that are involved in a same sex partnership are seen as worthless compared to others. It's a controversial topic, but i can't understand by people are so against it and choose to treat people bad and judge them for the simple fact that they express their preference. People need to learn to respect others sexuality and live with it, because it doesn't affect anyone but themselves. I think they deserve all the right to be open about their preference to the world without being ashamed or made fun of. I don't mind people that chose that lifestyle and chose to marry each other officially. I understand that religious factors state that marriage is a holy thing between a man and a women, but god loves all and gay couples should have the same rights as other couples. People need to be open minded and stop the hatred and strong opposition behind this topic.everyone is born equal and have the right to express their feelings for each other without being judged or embarrassed by other, it is not fair or right.

I agree with everything you are saying and i also believe that gay marriage should be legal. People will always judge no matter where you go. Marriage shouldn't just be between a man and woman, it should just be about love.
DeleteLike Gina, I agree with all your arguments. Everyone in this world should feel free to express their emotions towards anything without having the fear of being judged. Also, Gina I agree that marriage should be about love.
DeleteI believe that gay marriage should be legalized. If two people love each other then why should their sexuality matter? Now I know that same sex marriage is against some religious views but not everyone is the same religion. Everyone deserves an equal opportunity to live a happy life. They should be allowed to marry without judgement or ridicule.
ReplyDeleteMany peolle believe that any marriage should be based upon two people's feelings. Under certain circumstances I agree on that no one should tell another person who they can and can not marry, but at the same time it's not something that many people feel comfortable about. Let's say for instance, a man and a woman have a child and that child grows up interested in the same sex then the parents should support their child. Especially if their child is content with their sexuality, but deep inside a lot of parents would want their child to persue someone of the opposite sex. I personally believe that marriage should be between and man and a woman.
ReplyDeleteI believe that the only marriage available should be between a man and a women. Just think of the negative factors and problems that same sex marriage will bring. Problems as aids, HIV and many other transmitted diseases that tax payers will most likely end up paying to regulate. In addition, now that men are going to take the roles of women, how are we going to find who the real person is if they change their whole gender and identity. Also, the children that will be adopted will end up with a really bad childhood because he doesn’t have a mother nor a father but a two father or two mothers. I do believe that people have the right to do what makes them happy, but in a way many people disagree with the gay marriage in this moment. The generations are becoming more liberals, so then gay marriage will eventually pass but because morals are going down every day.

Gay marriage should be lawfully authorized. It is not the government's position to judge anyone for their sexual preference. Gay marriage is protected by the Constitution's commitments to liberty and equality. Throughout my research on the topic I found that the The US Supreme Court declared in 1974’s Cleveland Board of Education v. LaFleur that the "freedom of personal choice in matters of marriage and family life is one of the liberties protected by the Due Process Clause.” Gay marriage should be applicable to this ruling. It is up to one's decision to who they want to marry and should not be judged upon it.
ReplyDeleteGay marriage should be allowed simply because it is a natural right to be with whom ever you want to be with not mattering what sex they are. Everyone knows there are times when you control the feeling you may have towards another person. “The heart has eyes, yet it chooses to be blind” is a quote that in a way ties back to the idea of gay marriages, it is simply saying that your heart may know what morally right and wrong in the eyes of others but you choose to be blind because you rather be happy by the person you love, then unhappy with a person you were in a way forced to be with. I understand the reason why many people may be against gay marriages, but I believe they only have these opinions because they are uncomfortable with the idea of seeing PDA coming from same sex couples. Overall I stand by my opinion strongly solemnly because I have quite a couple of friend that fully support gay marriages and have influenced me to believe that “everyone deserves to be happy with the person they love”.
