Abortion

Abortion is one of those issues that polarizes public opinion. Many people have strong feelings for or against abortion; and in some cases the debate has sometimes resulted in protest and violence.  Be it that my students are mature rational beings that have been taught to skillfully and respectfully share their opinions, please express your thoughts about the topic. Then, respond to 2 of your peers posts.  Must be completed by ZERO period tomorrow.

  1. Although I believe abortion is wrong, I do agree that the decision to abort your child is not. Religiously it has been know to be sin to discontinue the "gift" God has given you, but many people who concider abortion tend to have a sence of disatachment, or feel they can not financially support the child. Essentially women who feel the need to terminate their pregnancy, may have had a traumatic experience conciving the child. In addition the parent may not be able to provide a safe, stable, or fit home for the child nevertheless possibly having toraise the child as a single parent. Therefore I believe the decision to abort your child is wrong.

    1. That is another point I was thinking about, where the person cannot afford to have a child. I agree with that. It would be a tough life to live when a person is barely living paycheck to paycheck by themselves.

    2. A great example for economic issues can be the "Great Depression." How people lived from paycheck to paycheck, as Jesus said, and starving each other to death due to the economic crisis. I agree with abortion playing a great role in preventing economic crisis from becoming even more crucial than what it is, especially when dealing with teenage pregnancies.

    3. I am kinda confused with your statement because it seems a little unclear, but I disagree that abortion should be allowed in any circumstance. If a parent is unable to support their child and care for it, adoption is a positive option to allow the child to have a good life. There is no need to abort a poor child when there is people out there that want a child and could never actually have one of their own. Good people could raise the child and give it a home, where it can live the life they deserve and should be able to live.

    1. I agree with your opinion because I do believe that abortion is wrong, but then people have there reasons. That person could be in a bad situation and can't afford the baby. The situation at that person's house could not be the best place for the baby, but then again there is adoption. Abortion should not be the first choice.

  4. Abortion is a very controversial topic. Many argue that it should be allowed, while others argue that it should be against the law. I believe that there is certain situations when abortion is understandable. For example, if a girl is raped and ends up pregnant, it really is understandable if the girl decides to get an abortion because it would be hard going through a pregnancy and going through labor knowing that the father is a rapist. In other situations getting an abortion is wrong. For example, if the girl ends up pregnant with her boyfriend or husband's baby, even if it was unplanned, the girl should not be able to get an abortion because having sex is basically saying they are ready for the responsibility of raising a child. Abortion is a very difficult topic to discuss because there can be good and bad from it. If I ended up pregnant, however, I wouldn't have an abortion because it seems like a really tough thing to do.

    1. This is exactly what I had in mind! No girl should have to deal with being the mother of a child that was given to her by a rapist nor should a girl be allowed to have an abortion just because she wanted to fool around.

    2. I agree with ms.de la Torre's argument on the issue. There should be certain limits on abortion. Although it would be hard to regulated, many lives would be preserve and many that baby could of been someone in life and we just killed him because he was just born to the wrong parents.

      Delete
    3. Although you have a valid point, I disagree with your statement because even though a girl might be raped, there is no need to have an abortion, when the child can be simply put into adoption for other people to raise and take care of. I don't understand how people say that a girl may treat the child bad and abuse the child because they bring bad memories to the girl. I think that is a bad excuse to have an abortion because it is not the child's fault and they shouldn't pay the price for something they had no control over. The girl can simply choose to put the child in adoption and give them off to have a good life without blaming the child, when it was no one's fault other than the rapist themselves.

  5. Abortion has many view points and how it is wrong or right. It has come to my attention that people have abortions for certain reasons. Maybe the young lady does not want the baby. She is not prepared to be a mother, why force her to become one? People say then why have intercourse? But at the same time what happens when it was not her choice? Abortion is right for certain causes but it is not right if the girl wants to be fooling around without protection. Like people say, "There is a time and place for anything". The girl who did not choose to be having a child should be allowed to get an abortion, however the other girl would not be allowed to get one, just so she can continue doing what she does. Abortion should be allowed in special cases.

    1. I accept your claim Jesus. But now the problem with that is regulation. Should the young girl need the consent of the parents or just make her decision by herself. In other hand, what about the girl that was raped, should she have an abortion, not tell anyone and continue with her life as if nothing happen?

      Delete
    2. I'm slightly confused about your position, but I agree with your first statement, "Why force her to become one?" Forcing an individual to make a decision against their own belief is completely unconstitutional! Not only is it violating the 4th and 14th amendment, it is violating the women's privacy.

      Delete
    3. I understand where you are coming from however "special cases"? How would those be determined exactly only rape and economic situations? What if the mother does drugs? Also, I just believe that there shouldn't be special cases but abortion should just be a choice for everyone.

  6. Abortion can not be eliminated due to the fact that pressure will always take place in young teens' "choice making" when deciding to keep a baby. Although abortion is the most fastest and less painful decision at the moment, their will always be that regretful guilt that will weigh the mother down for the rest of her life. Keep in mind, that abortion is not the only choice offered to young teens but so are Foster Homes. There will always be that one couple that can not reproduce, therefore they will seek for a newborn that they may adopt as one of their own. Why prevent a child from coming to life when others can benefit from the presence of it? Overall, I believe abortion is wrong and should not be offered to minors.

    1. I completely agree with your statement. Many people do want a child but cannot have their own. Instead of having abortions, girls who do end up pregnant should give their child up for adoption instead because it saves a life, and can brighten up someone else's life.Abortion is wrong. Either don't have sex, or go for adoption instead.

    2. I like your arguments because you do say that there is other choices than just abortion. Abortion for teens IS a difficult decision just like it is for politicians. Yes, many couples do look for children to adopt but why not adopt the other children that have been looking for a home and wish to obtain love from a family.

      Delete
    3. I understand where you are coming from in saying that there are always foster homes available to put your child up for adoption, but if the young girl was raped, why must she go through the pain of giving birth to the child? She should not have to deal with the pain and suffer of having to give birth to a child that was given to her by a rapist. She should be allowed to get an abortion because she is a minor and is to young to go through all of this physical and emotional pain.

    4. I agree with Jesy argument simply because he has a point when he says that the child can always be put up for adoption. Another thing that should be considered is the fact that sometimes the people trying to have an abortion are those who do not necessarily have the money to support a child, and would rather have an abortion before seeing their child suffer through hunger or other rough conditions.

    5. I totally agree with you, especially because teenagers under the age of 18 aren't very reasonable and can chose to use abortion as the easy way out if they happen to get pregnant for being sexually active and without protection. While a ton of teenage girls get carelessly pregnant every year, there is women out there that are over a certain age and many not be able to reproduce anymore. They should give their child to adoption and stop using abortions as the easy way out.

  7. Although abortion is a "hot" topic in the 21st century, politicians do not want to touch the issue, abortion should legal for specific reasons. It is more than just religious beliefs and if it is morally correct that makes everyone think. Most believe that abortion is killing a human-being but if that person inside a woman's womb and the woman knows that she cannot afford to have a children then what other option does she have.Yes, the woman can give the children for adoption but who secures the future of the child. There is not just economic issues, for some people there is reasons like the children is a relatives and does not want no one to know about her issue.

  8. I agree with your statement, except if we as people have the ability to "smack" some sense into the young teen, in order for her not to choose abortion as a solution, then why not put it to play? If we were to be less strict with the young teen, then the teen may take advantage of it. What will make us sure enough to let the teen go have an abortion and all of a sudden get pregnant months later? Instead this time she will feel safe that abortions can actually solve her baby problems. My point is to never even acknowledge abortions to a young teen, because she will keep it in mind until she may become pregnant.

I completely agree with your argument about the parents not being able to support the child.I have seen children out in the streets asking for money because their parents cannot afford the child's necessities.I think you should extend on your last thought because you do make it clear why some one should abort but not the reason of why it is wrong.

  10. When it comes to the very controversial topic whether abortion is right or wrong, it is both right and wrong depending on the situation. Now a days we see many young girls pregnant. For the most part we do not know if the young girl wanted to fool around and be immature or if in reality she was raped. If the young girl wanted to fool around and be immature about her actions, then she should not be able to get an abortion. It is her fault for not being responsible and now she must deal with the consequences. On the other hand if the young girl or even grown woman was raped, they should be allowed to to get an abortion. Having to deal with the trauma from being raped is enough for them and they should not suffer with having a child that they did not plan on having. Many people may say that the young girl or woman was not rapped but she is not ready to have the child. If she knew that she would not be able to support her baby then she should not be having any sex in the first place, knowing that there is a chance of becoming pregnant. Abortion should be allowed depending on the situation.

    1. I agree with your opinion on abortion only because I think in many cases it simply depends on the situation. One of course may be against abortion simply because it could be looked at as the killing of another human being who didn’t even get the chance to be born, but one does not know if the girl was a victim or rape or if she was acting "foolish" and having unprotected sex. Of course one can understand the reasons to want an abortion if the girl was raped and resulted pregnant, why be reminded of the dramatic situation that changed their life forever? Then of course there are those people who want to abort because they do not want their parents to find out that they were having unprotected sex and ended up being pregnant, those are the types of situations that should not be granted the right to have an abortion.

    2. I agree with you that a girl should not have an abortion if she had chosen to have sex. But I disagree with you in the case if the teen girl or women is raped because she can always give it up for adoption. Abortion can be avoided if there are more choices.

    3. I agree with your opinion because I do believe that people should do adoption instead of abortion. If you weren't ready to have baby, then there shouldn't have been unprotected sex. If doing abortion, it is probably based on the situation of that person and what is best for the baby.

  11. Although some people say that abortion can be a good thing because some people are not meant to be parents, abortion is a horrible thing because it is the killing of an innocent individual. Abortion is cruel because it is punishing the baby based on the parent's mistakes. If a person does not want to have a baby, then they should not have sex. There is always a chance of a girl getting pregnant if they have sex. If a person is not ready to be a parent, they should not have sex at all instead of having abortions. There is situations when a girl ends up pregnant and it is not their fault. For example, if a girl gets raped and ends up pregnant it is not their fault. There is still other ways to deal with it. Instead of having an abortion and killing a baby for something the baby had nothing to do with, they can give the baby up for adoption instead. There is always a way around abortion, and people should do those things instead of killing an innocent individual.

    1. I agree with you in giving the child up for adoption because their is a way around this situation. Also if they are not ready for a big responsibility they should not have sex. And the rape situation, is a perfect way for a women to handle the situation in giving it up for adoption instead of having the abortion.

  12. According to the Supreme Court is a “woman’s choice whether to have an abortion is protected by her right to privacy”. In the court case Roe v. Wade, the Supreme Court voted in a 7 to 2 to favor Roe and grant the ability to abort to the woman. Abortion was one of the most controversial issues in the presidential election. Although many people say that abortion is a right that women deserved under the Bill of Rights and that they have the right to do whatever they want to do with the baby that’s developing in their womb. It’s in fact a selfish act because you’re killing a person that also has the same right to live as anyone else but now he does not because the decision of a selfish person that only thinks about herself. In the other hand, I do understand if the woman doesn’t want the child because the she was raped or her life was in danger, in that case I would compromise to an abortion but not fully content because that the baby had the right to life as anyone else. The sad truth about abortion is that only 7% deal with raped. Romney said, “But we have two lives involved here: A mom and unborn child. We have to have concern for both lives” and yes he is right, who are we to stop human life. Have we ever stopped and think that maybe that child could of have been the next doctor or lawyer? Are we god to decide if we want to stop the life of a person?

In my opinion, women who are not raped or face any type of sexual assault also have their reasons to get an abortion.

  13. Abortion is set out to be a very controversial topic in American society. Americans today automatically assume that abortion is being done because of the irresponsibility people have towards their actions. It is for that reason that people tend to believe that it is immoral and should not be permitted. Whereas, others take in consideration the difficulties many of these women have faced in order to desire an abortion. The National Abortion Federation acknowledges, "Women deserve the autonomy and dignity to act in accordance with their personal convictions, and to decide what is best for their own lives and families." Specifically, the quote states that women should have the right to decide whether they want to keep the child or not. Abortion is not always a matter of just getting rid of another life, but it is also a matter of gaining back the dignity that was initially deprived from them.

  14. Abortion is a topic that people talk about because there can be many points of view in this situation. Abortion is a very difficult topic for me because I disagre and at the same time agree. Although I have two points of view, I would rely on disagreeing with abortion because there is another choice rather than to have an abortion. Giving it up for adoption would be an example because it is a choice that will not kill an innocent unborn baby. Therefore abortion should not be allowed because their can be a better choice for that uborn child that is to come.

  15. Abortion is a controversial topic due to the fact that both sides are reasonable.
Many say abortion is wrong because every person has a right to be born and live. Abortion can also be a health hazard to women who choose to have it. Some women develop emotional problems and go into depression.
On the other hand, you have those who say that abortion should be legal because the parents or mother may not be able to support the child, so why bring them into a world where they can't have the best? Others may argue by asking, what if the woman was raped?
With this said, it is understood that it depends on the situation of the woman, her morals and how she feels about getting an abortion.

  16. The key to this topic is the question of when a fertilized egg becomes a human being. I agree with the Supreme Court decision in the Roe v. Wade court case of 1973, the fetus is not a human being until it can survive outside the womb or at which point the fetus is viable. Therefore before the twenty-third week of pregnancy all rights reside with the mother. Taking these rights away from women is unconstitutional and violates the fourth and fourteenth amendments, due process and privacy. The Fourth Amendment protects "the right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects." The Fourteenth amendments provides due process under the law and equally provides all constitutional rights to all citizens of this country, regardless of race, sex, religious beliefs and creed. To uphold the values of a democrat society, these rights must be protected and guaranteed to all women who seek an abortion.

  17. The U.S. abortion rate is among the highest of developed countries, there for making abortion a topic worth talking about. Many people have different opinions on whether abortion is the right or wrong thing to do; I on one hand believe abortion is only an option depending on the situation. One situation that can be considered “abortion material” can be the being raped situation, but only one per cent (of aborting women) reported that they were the survivors of rape (http://www.abort73.com/abortion_facts/us_abortion_statistics/). If this is so, then why is there women that still get abortions? Do they not realize that nearly half of all abortions worldwide are unsafe, and that unsafe abortions have significant negative consequences beyond those of just scares both physically and emotionally? As for the women who just turn to abortion because they believe they are not ready to bring a human being into this world, they should not be granted the opportunity to have an abortion. Those women’s reasons for not using contraceptives may not be known, but the belief that they are not at risk of getting pregnant is simply pathetic considering they know what they were doing when they were having sex. What fault did the unborn child have that deserved to be punished with death? The child had just as much right to live as anyone else in this world.

  18. Although many people do not mean to get pregnant and become parents, abortion is not the best choice. Having the choice of abortion is taking away another individual's life. Instead of giving up the baby for abortion, think about adoption, that way you won't feel guilty. If you knew that you weren't ready for a baby, then you shouldn't had sex. The bad side of having an abortion is killing the womb and don't have to bother having a baby, which depends on the girl between the ages from eighteen to twenty four. Most likely when a woman is pregnant, they would have to take matter on the decision of keeping the baby and have a child which time and effort is involved, or have an abortion and give the women more time for their decision to be pregnant again

There are several reasons why abortions are performed, mainly because women are careless and have unprotective sex. If men and women are capable to have sex, then they should be responsible to become parents.

  24. Abortion is a very controversial/arguable topic. Many believe it should be allowed, while others believe it should not be allowed and be against the law. I believe abortion should be allowed in certain types of cituations. For example, if a girl gets sexually abused and ends up getting pregnant, it really is understandable if the girl decides to get an abortion because it would be hard on her because she would have bad memories when she looks at the kid, thus making her treat the baby bad. In totally different situations getting an abortion is wrong. For example, if the girl is sexually active and does not use protection and ends up getting pregnant with her boyfriend, even if it was unplanned, the girl should not be able to get an abortion because she knew what the outcome of having unprotected sex is basically going to end up in a pregnancy. 25. In the world we come from you will quickly learn that to every choice you make there is a consequence or a blessing behind it. In the case of abortion I fell it is wrong because it is your fault you decided to get intimate with another human being and the consequences you have to deal with from the incident is taking responsibility to give that child the best life you can provide him or her with. Another major reason I feel abortion is wrong is because many women decide to get one without telling the man or boy about it. Although I disagree with abortion, I do agree with adopting or giving a child to someone who can provide for them if you can’t, because every child on this earth is a blessing from God that we should not have the choice to take away.

  26. In my opinion, i think that abortion should not be legal because it kills a poor fetus and takes their life from them. No baby should pay the price of an unplanned pregnancy, and even if the baby was conceived because of rape, the baby still can be put into adoption and given to a good couple that may not be able to have their own children. People need to value life and think about the baby before killing an innocent child and taking their opportunity to live, instead of being selfish and self centered.
